West Tech Fest Youth Program - Resource Development & Masterclass Delivery

As a leading event for the West Australia startup and innovation ecosystem, West Tech Fest brings together industry innovators, startup founders, and community changemakers for a week of learning, networking, and collaborating.

To ensure that young people were involved in the conversation, we teamed up with Student Edge, The Fogarty Foundation, Bloom, Curtin University, and Purposeful to deliver the inaugural West Tech Fest Youth Program.

Taking place over the course of one action-packed morning, the Youth Program saw 150 young people, mentors, and teachers coming together to showcase their ideas, build their skills, and develop their networks. Hosted at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Perth, the BOP team assisted in the following ways:

Resource Development:

To ensure attendees were able to get the most out of the day, the BOP team developed a five-page information pack that was sent out to all registrants in the lead-up to the program. This information pack included key details for the program, an overview of the day, and some top tips to help attendees get the most out of the day. In addition to this, we also developed an eight-page 'Student Passport' for attendees to use on the day. These printed A5 passports were complete with an abridged copy of the program, short activities to help students develop their personal elevator pitches, find mentors, and build their networks, and a selection of challenges to get students mingling with stall holders, exhibitors, and speakers. These resources looked fantastic and were a hit with attendees looking to maximise their time at the Youth Program.

Masterclass Delivery:

On the day the BOP team delivered three 30-minute masterclasses to help the young innovators and entrepreneurs in attendance develop their skills, knowledge, and experience as they worked to bring their ideas to life. These masterclasses focused on tangible takeaways, real-world case studies, and valuable topics for young people wanting to launch or grow a business. Topics included:

  • Building Your Digital Presence: A guide to website design and social media marketing for business owners.

  • Pitching 101: A guide to pitching an idea with confidence and persuading your customers, investors, and partners to back you.

  • Digital Influencers: A guide to building, launching, and growing an influencer brand as a young person.

We had such a fantastic time working with the West Tech Fest Youth Program team and we loved getting brilliant feedback from the students, mentors, and teachers in attendance.
