The Sustainable Aviation Challenge Pack is designed to get students rethinking the future of air travel by exploring innovative ways to reduce the aviation industry's environmental impact. Throughout the pack, students will research sustainable solutions for Qantas, from alternative fuels to waste reduction, and develop a campaign to promote these initiatives to the public.

Students can complete this pack digitally, or on a printed copy and will be challenged to work individually or in teams as they complete three activities related to build a sustainable aircraft. Each activity will see students provided with a page of information to outline what is being asked of them, along with a second page of information with links to case studies to help shape their thinking.

To assist students with their ideas, they will be provided with three user personas to consider, all with specific needs and frustrations. As students bring their sustainable aircraft to life they will be asked to prepare a script and slides for a 3-5 minute pitch outlining their plans.

This is a great activity pack for educators looking to find an engaging way to help students build their innovation skills whilst linking to the interest of sustainability and aviation. This activity pack can be adapted to suit your preferred time length and delivery style. It is recommended that students are given at least 6-8 hours of working time to bring their ideas to life.

Challenge Areas:

As students work to re-design their sustainable aircraft, they will be working through the following challenge areas to create their solution. This includes:

Future Aircraft Design: Students will reimagine the aircraft of the future, integrating sustainable fuel alternatives and innovative design features to reduce environmental impact. They will explore how these changes can cut costs, lower carbon footprints, and ensure a smooth transition for Qantas' fleet.

Sustainable In-Flight Solutions: Students will explore innovative ways to reduce waste across the airline experience, from sustainable utensils and packaging to repurposing uniforms, furniture, and retired aircraft. They will develop eco-friendly alternatives for passengers and airlines to minimize environmental impact.

Awareness Campaign: Students will design a marketing campaign to showcase Qantas’ sustainable initiatives, integrating their ideas from previous challenges. They will develop a compelling storyboard, select the best platform, define a target audience, and create a strong call-to-action to engage customers and the general public.
