The Future Of Sport Challenge Pack has been designed to get students designing an innovative sports stadium of the future for their local community as they consider how they can use technology, sustainability, and user centred design to enhance the spectator experience.
Students can complete this pack digitally, or on a printed copy and will be challenged to work individually or in teams as they complete three activities related to designing a sports stadium of the future. Each activity will see students provided with a page of information to outline what is being asked of them, along with a second page of information with links to case studies to help shape their thinking.
To assist students with their ideas, they will be provided with three user personas to consider, all with specific needs and frustrations. As students bring their future sports stadiums to life they will be asked to prepare a script and slides for a 3-5 minute pitch outlining their plans.
This is a great activity pack for educators looking to find an engaging way to help students build their innovation skills whilst linking to the interest area of sport. This activity pack can be adapted to suit your prefered time length and delivery style. It is recommended that students are given at least 6-8 hours of working time to bring their ideas to life.
Challenge Areas:
As students work to design their stadium of the future, they will be working through the following three challenge areas to create their solution. These will be:
Stadium Redesign: As technological and sustainable innovations become more prevalent, the conventional stadium has to up its game to lure people from the comfort of their own homes. Everything from the seating, the screens, food vendors and the field itself needs refreshing and reinvention.
Stadium Sponsorship and Branding: Team sports are a multi-billion dollar business in Australia and building or maintaining a stadium is an expensive pursuit, therefore it is no surprise that stadiums are eager to sell naming rights to companies. However, sustainable stadiums have to ensure that their mission and values align with their sponsors.
The Spectator Experience: Without fans and spectators attending games, the sporting industry would not be the same. Fans affect how athletes perform, how stadiums brand themselves and their revenue streams. Students must consider how stadium innovations will keep fans coming to watch games, despite technology improving the home viewing experience.
